Container Loading Tips:

  • Weight Limit Compliance:

    • Always ensure the cargo weight inside the container does not exceed the container's maximum load capacity. This capacity is the container's gross weight minus its tare weight. Both values are typically marked on the container door.
  • Volume Density Awareness:

    • Each container has a specific unit volume capacity. When loading the same type of goods, knowing the cargo density helps determine whether the cargo is heavy or light.
  • Balanced Load Distribution:

    • Ensure that the load is evenly distributed across the container floor. Avoid situations where the load's center of gravity is concentrated at one end.
  • Avoid Concentrated Loads:

    • When loading heavy machinery or similar items, use wooden boards or other padding materials to disperse the load across the container floor.
  • Proper Handling with Manual Labor:

    • Pay attention to handling instructions such as "Do Not Stack," "This Side Up," or "Keep Upright." Use appropriate loading tools, and avoid using hooks for bundled cargo.
  • Maximize Space Utilization:

    • Know the internal dimensions of the container and the external dimensions of the cargo packaging. This knowledge helps calculate the optimal number of items to load, minimizing unused space and maximizing cargo quantity.
  • Forklift Loading Considerations:

    • When using a forklift, be mindful of the lift height and mast height restrictions. If possible, load two layers at once, leaving a gap between layers. Use wooden blocks under the cargo for easy forklift withdrawal.
  • Avoid Naked Loading:

    • Ideally, all cargo should have some form of packaging to prevent damage. While general cargo usually comes packaged, large items like boilers or construction materials need to be securely tied and tightened to prevent shifting.
  • Loading Bagged Cargo on Pallets:

    • Use airbags to fill gaps between pallets to prevent movement during transport. Place wooden boards between stacked pallets to prevent collapse. Ensure partial loads are securely fixed with top rods.
  • Handling Loose Cargo:

    • For cargo packed in cartons or standard-sized barrels, loading without pallets can save space. However, proper securing is essential to avoid additional unloading and loading costs.
  • Equipment Condition and Cleanliness:

    • Check for any damages or contamination on the container during pick-up. Inadequate securing can lead to cargo damage and container contamination, resulting in cleaning and repair fees upon return.

By following these tips, you can ensure the safe and efficient loading of containers, minimizing risks and optimizing space utilization.

Additional Note:

For bagged cargo loaded on pallets, use airbags to fill gaps to prevent shifting during transit. For partial loads, secure them with top rods. Loose-packed cartons or barrels can be loaded without pallets but need to be properly secured to avoid additional unloading costs.

Maintaining attention to detail during loading will prevent major issues, ensuring both cargo safety and compliance with container handling regulations.
